My journey in this field started at Cayuga Community College where I studied the basics of camera work, audio, and non-linear editing. After graduating with an Associate’s degree I attended SUNY Plattsburgh and expanded my skills as a member of Plattsburgh State Television (PSTV). My first year was spent in crew positions and then as an editor, where I assembled footage, edited audio, and added music. I’m experienced with motions graphics such as lower thirds and green screen effects. For editing I primarily used Adobe Premiere, Audition, and After Effects. However, I am familiar with Avid Media Composer and DaVinci Resolve , and the first NLE I ever used was Final Cut Pro 7, so I am able to find my way around different editing programs.
In my second year in PSTV I joined management as the Director of Motion Graphics. In my final semester I was promoted to Production Coordinator, overseeing the technical aspects of the station. In this role, I coordinated with producers and department heads to maintain quality and consistency across the entirety of our programming. In addition to learning about technical and management aspects of the industry, I was able to work with a wide variety of people under tight deadlines. Some of my strongest skills as Production Coordinator were leading people, resolving problems, and helping people to do their best work under pressure.
After graduation from SUNY Plattsburgh, I was the editor for a morning news show at CNYCentral in Syracuse, New York. I edited VOs and SOTs, prepared reporter packages for the broadcast, and archived each show. In delivering a live product, I worked with tight deadlines on a daily basis in a team-based production. I held that position for over three years before moving on to my current job as a commercial/promotions producer at FOX68 in Syracuse. Now I write, shoot, and edit commercials for clients in the Central New York area. These projects require more creativity and operate on a quick turnaround schedule.
